The Los Angeles Lakers will try to sweep their season series against the Dallas Mavericks in today’s NBA Game of the Day. A regular-season sweep by the Lakers would not make up for the four straight losses that Los Angeles suffered to the Mavericks in last year’s Western Conference semifinals. If the current standings in the West hold up, the Lakers (third) and Mavericks (sixth) will meet in the first round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs.
The Lakers will “most likely” be without Kobe Bryant as they go for their sixth straight regular-season victory over the Mavericks. Bryant has missed the last four games due to inflammation in his left shin. Los Angeles lost the first game without Bryant to the Phoenix Suns but has won the last three. The Lakers hope to extend their winning streak to four with a victory over the Mavericks in today’s potential preview of a first-round playoff series.
Since parting ways with Lamar Odom, Dallas has won three straight games. Prior to their 110-100 win over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, April 10, the Mavericks were 0-7 in games without Odom. Today’s matchup against the Lakers will be Dallas’ first of three straight against teams with winning records. That stretch will conclude with a potentially pivotal contest against the seventh-place Houston Rockets, who trail the Mavericks by just a game and a half heading into today’s games.
