The Western Conference-leading San Antonio Spurs will visit the Los Angeles Lakers in today’s NBA Game of the Day. This will be the second of three regular-season meetings between these two teams. The Lakers won the first matchup, 98-84, behind a 30-rebound performance from Andrew Bynum. Kobe Bryant did not play in that game and will likely miss tonight’s game as well as he continues to rest his inflamed left shin.
The Spurs lead the Oklahoma City Thunder by mere percentage points for the West’s top seed. San Antonio has won three straight games since losing to Los Angeles on Wednesday, April 11. To maintain their position atop the West, the Spurs will need to extend their winning streak.
Bryant has missed Los Angeles’ last five games. Without the NBA’s leading scorer, the Lakers have gone 4-1. If they can continue their stellar play over the final five games of the season, the Lakers will lock up the third seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
